THE COST OF AN UNPROTECTED THRESHOLD
The track goes in early. Site traffic keeps coming. A clear access plan helps protect the opening through the work that follows.

THE DAMAGE IS SMALL. THE INTERRUPTION IS NOT.
Rectification can mean replacement parts, return visits, trade coordination and lost time near handover. The cost deserves a place in the site plan before the first loaded wheelbarrow crosses the opening.
A correctly selected ToughTracks system bridges over the track, creating a reusable crossing for suitable site traffic.

THE ORIGINAL TOUGHTRACKS COST MODEL
The calculator from the current ToughTracks website, adapted for use online. Enter your own figures for labour, maintenance, defects and the system you need.
Inputs start blank, as in the original blank worksheet. Example figures are illustrative assumptions, not verified industry averages.
Calculation: hours * hourly rate * quantity + material cost
Calculation: frequency * (hours * hourly rate + material cost)
Calculation: quantity * unit cost
Calculation: probability percent / 100 * claim cost
Calculation: quantity * unit cost
Calculation: accessways * ramps per accessway * unit price
Calculation: hours per ramp * hourly rate * total purchased ramps + material cost
The original ToughTracks workbook is available unchanged above. This online version retains its seven cost sections, input categories and published Pro / Mini prices.
The source workbook has shifted cell references in the defect-repair section: minor track repair is counted twice and the last repair row is omitted. Here each repair row uses its own quantity × cost. The original example therefore compares $7,550 with $4,968, a difference of $2,582, rather than the workbook’s $4,182 result.
Only enter costs and probabilities you can justify for your project. Injury and indirect costs are optional scenario assumptions, not claims about product safety or guaranteed avoided costs. Freight, price tiers, tax adjustments, ongoing inspection and other project costs are not added by this model. Product suitability and final pricing require confirmation.
START WITH THE BUSIEST LEVEL
Map simultaneous access points, wheel spacing and suitable loads. Then consider where reusable systems can move when the trades move. Some crossings need more than one set, and some need a custom system.
